A
gift shop called Feathers: The Pine Creek Ungrocery
Store is housed in the little red cabin next to the
Pine Creek Lodge and Cafe. Owned by Glendive, Montana
native and Paradise Valley resident Po Hall, the store
sells beaded jewelry and leatherwork, Navajo patterned
saddle blankets and rugs, woven bags, silk scarves,
knitted hats, cards, prints, soaps, bath salts, shower
gels and other body care items, as well as a small selection
of specialty cigarettes. Hall carries locally-made merchandise
whenever possible and features the intricate beadwork
of Bridger Canyon-based, Mescalero Apache artist Sarah
Gillan, whose work has been displayed as part of a Smithsonian
Museum exhibit in Washington, D.C.
Po herself has years of textile weaving experience,
having co-owned and operated hand-woven artwear stores
in Albuquerque and Santa Fe, New Mexico for twenty-five
years. As a Pine Creek staff member, she saw an opportunity
to take advantage of the underutilized cabin as a retail
space featuring beautiful organic creations and practical
everyday items. Hall calls it the "ungrocery store"
because the main building used to house a small grocery
store that has since become part of the cafe and customers
guided by historic signs in the area still come in looking
for the old Pine Creek grocery store.

After living outside of Montana for several decades,
Hall was happy to return to her home state and pursue
these new outlets for her creative passions. Feathers
is open Wednesday and Thursday 11am-4pm, Friday and
Saturday 11am-4pm and 5-9pm, Sunday 11am-2pm, and by
appointment. The store is located in Paradise
Valley 10 miles south of Livingston at 2496 East River
Road. Po Hall can be reached at 222-1275 or 223-2550.
