Chef Dan Shapiro, formerly of Chico Hot Springs Resort
and the B-Bar Guest Ranch, has crafted a menu featuring
local and regional items, including elk, trout, and
buffalo dishes. Dan has garnered international acclaim
for his Rainbow Trout Taco recipe that was featured
in One Fish, Two Fish, Crawfish, Bluefish - The Smithsonian
Sustainable Seafood cookbook. The café serves
breakfast, lunch, and dinner 7 days a week in the summer
and Wednesday through Sunday in winter, and we feature
a good selection of local microbrews and imported and
domestic beers as well as a variety of wines.
Built in 1946, the café itself has a wonderful,
intimate ambiance created by its wood-burning stoves
and original log cabin walls. The restaurant is painted
with vibrant colors and festooned with decorative white
lights, Japanese lanterns, and an eclectic array of
furnishings and local artwork, creating an atmosphere
that makes diners feel right at home. Vases of colorful
wildflowers from local greenhouse Deep Creek Green grace
our dining tables throughout the summer. The centerpiece
of the main room is a beautiful and environmentally
friendly Hetta model Tulikivi soapstone woodstove from
Finland. It features a large, curved glass door that
allows diners to view the fire from a variety of angles.
Tulikivi's efficient design ensures that the wood burns
cleanly, with mesmerizing clarity. In fact, the flames
look so perfect that some customers mistakenly assume
the stove runs on gas! Since the heat is stored in the
soapstone and slowly released over time, the Hetta produces
a comfortable, gentle warmth. For more information about
Tulikivi heating and cooking systems, visit www.tulikivi.com.
Pine
Creek also features a covered and screened deck that
is the preferred summer dining space. The deck is tucked
into the trees, and it's not uncommon for summer diners
to be treated to views of local wildlife from their
tables (including whitetail and mule deer and the resident
wild turkeys). Domesticated bison reside just across
the street, offering interesting viewing opportunities,
and Pine Creek is particularly well situated to allow
our guests to observe the frequent summer rainbows and
year round glorious sunsets. Our guests are pleasantly
surprised at finding such top-notch cuisine in a beautiful,
out of the way place with an informal atmosphere and
reasonable prices.
